Grinding Technology Japan 2023

Grinding Technology Japan 2021 was the second exhibition focusing on the grinding technologies to occur in Japan. It was a success gathering around five thousand visitors in three days. According to the exhibitors, visitors were “fully aware of the sector” with “fast and productive discussions often leading to business”.  Grinding Technology Japan 2023 will be held from March 8th to 10th.

Difference between “Dry Grinding” and “Wet Grinding” of Ball Mills

Ball milling is generally divided into dry milling and wet milling, wet milling is the most commonly used method with the advantage of high efficiency, and uniform particles out of milling. Because large particles in the ball milling with media grinding and impact action, there will be cracks. The cracks will break to form small particles over time, that is, the so-called grinding process. If it is dry grinding, then the particles in the ball milling process crack expansion, due to the ball milling ball or between the particles of the extrusion, the formation of cracks may be squeezed “closed”, the cracks can not be effectively expanded, the large particles can not be quickly fracture the formation of small particles. But if it is wet grinding, then the liquid ball milling medium (water or anhydrous ethanol, etc.) will enter the crack gap formed, blocking the crack closure, which will effectively make the crack expand rapidly, and will greatly improve the ball milling efficiency. Dry grinding is generally used for the material in the liquid medium does not react. If there is a reaction, it will form other substances in the ball mill, then the ball mill is meaningless, such as: cement can not be ball milled in water. At the same time, due to the design of the ball mill tank, it will form some dead ends where the materials couldn’t be milled in dry grinding. But wet grinding also has a weakness, that is, after wet grinding, we need powder to dry to remove moisture or other liquid media, so it will increase the consumption and cost. But currently wet grinding is widely used in industrial production

Wet grinding ratio is ball: material: water (or other liquids) = 4:2:1 relationship, or within this range to do a small adjustment. The specific can be determined through experiments and the size of the alumina grinding ball graded requirements. With the good ratio, the efficiency of ball milling will be greatly improved . If you are not sure about the ratio, we can do experiment for you in our laboratory.

Zirconia Product Overview and Performance Advantages

The initial raw material of zirconia products is zirconium silicate, which is changed into zirconium oxychloride and other compounds after chemical desilication treatment.

We get the precursor from rare earth oxides and zirconium oxychloride after alkaline neutralization and co-precipitation reaction, and then  after calcination, air flow and spray granulation, it turns into zirconia products mainly raw materials –zirconia powder.

Zirconia powder was be made into raw billet by different means of molding – including dry pressure, isostatic pressure, extrusion, rolling, injection and so on.  After high temperature it was sintered into porcelain, and then after polishing and finishing, it was made into various types of products.

In the 1960s Garvi et al. used calcium oxide, magnesium oxide partially stabilized zirconia (Ca-PSZ, Mg-PSZ) to achieve phase transition toughening; Since then scholars at home and abroad have fully investigated different zirconia stabilizers, and studied the effect of rare earth compound addition on the mechanical properties, material appearance, and aging resistance of zirconia ceramics from the ideas of microstress, lattice manifolds, and so on. The physical and chemical properties of rare earths are used to change the lattice phase transition of zirconia, avoiding the monoclinic phase transition of zirconia at low temperatures, thus effectively stabilizing the tetragonal phase of zirconia. It is found that Y2O3, CeO2 is one of the best stabilizers for ZrO2 to form a stable cubic phase. Using the properties of tetragonal and cubic phase zirconia (TZP) can be manufactureed into rare-earth zirconia structural products, which at the same time have the advantages of high wear and corrosion resistant and high mechanical strength. The material properties are shown in the table below, which is the best strength and toughness of the ceramics at present:
